Our Mission

The Open Door Education Foundation is dedicated to helping talented young people with limited financial resources get the training and skills necessary to keep America in the technological lead.  Our Primary program and focus is to provide scholarships to students who are pursuing a technical education or training and need financial assistance for tuition to do so.

About The Foundation

The Open Door Foundation is a supporting Organization to NACCB under Tax Code 501(c)(3).  It is a separate non-profit public charity to which chapters, companies and individuals can contribute stock and cash and which can solicit public contributions and private foundation grants.  It is incorporated in Washington, D.C., with administrative offices in Westford, Ma.

About National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses (NACCB)

NACCB is the nation's largest non-profit trade association of companies providing primarily computer consulting services.  Naccb has over 400 member companies, who have over 1,100 offices throughout the U.S, with combines revenues in excess of 10 billion dollars.  Members belong to one of 17 local chapters located throughout the nation or, if not geographically close enough to attend local chapter meetings, to the "At-Large" Chapter.  The latter is the association;s largest chapter, with over 85 member companies.  All of The Open Door's programs will be delivered into communities throughout the nation by NACCB's chapters.

Our Programs

Still in its formative stages, The Open Door Education Foundation has raised $850,000 from over 140 NACCB members and vendors, many of whom are also committed to hands-on participation.

In Phase 1, each of NACCB's 17 chapters is identifying scholarship recipients at the college/university/technical institute level, and will be granting scholarships to them for the academic semester beginning in the fall of 1999.  Each chapter will be responsible for identifying recipients and granting scholarships for each semester thereafter.  Further, NACCB member companies' staffs and consultants will be invited to participate in a mentoring program, which will pair individual volunteers with scholarship recipients to provide "real-world" guidance.

In Phase 2, we will begin active recruiting at the high school level, educating students about careers and opportunities in the IT industry.  We will also establish a mentoring program in which NACCB members, their staffs, and senior-level consultants will be paired with students, to provide "real world" guidance and counseling about issues such as: course selection, description of and preparation for specific professions in the IT industry, assistance in locating employment, and, ultimately, forming relationships that span their technical careers.

In Phase 3, NACCB chapters can elect to sponsor a series of seminars, bringing together local technical employers (our clients) and technical educators.   The goal will be to encourage these two groups to work together to improve the quality and quantity of technical education and training available in their communities.
