Job Description:
Responsibilities
Our client is seeking a Firmware Engineer with strong experience in Embedded Processors including Filtering, Interrupt Handling, Signal Processing, Power Management, State Machine Handling and RF Communication experience.
The Firmware Engineer will be involved in the architecture, design, development and quality assurance of firmware solutions for medical applications. As a key member of the design and development team the Sr. Firmware Engineer will be responsible for the design and the implementation of quality driven, innovative, and well structured firmware solutions as well as helping shape and drive the direction of firmware for future generations of product.
* Conceptualize, plan and execute the design and development of firmware solutions.
* Defines, develops and participates in the designs of new products.
* Hands on person, executing implementation and project management responsibilities of the firmware development process.
* Ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives.
* Consult with internal cross-functional teams for definition and design of product requirements.
* Engage resources outside the work group or company as needed to accomplish engineering objectives.
* Lead the resolution of product problems.
* Initiates reviews of ideas and technical objectives within and across business teams.
* Identify and create new techniques to advance the processes used in the development of new or existing systems.
* Mentor more junior members of the team.
* Ownership for initiatives and drive on-going evaluation and success.
* Fosters team communications.
* Translate business level goals into own work assignments .
* Document work products effectively and efficiently.
Qualifications
* Successful applicant must have a proven track record of contributing to bringing products to market.
* BSEE/BSCS with at least 7 years of embedded software engineering experience.
* At least 5 years of Device Firmware experience writing in assembler, C/C++, or Java.
* Comfortable working with ICE's, Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Programmable Power Supplies, and other standard lab equipment.
* Proven track record for delivery of complex designs involving embedded systems.
* Significant Experience with Microchip architectures.
* Board/system bring up and low level Driver design for embedded products.
* System architecture design experience including partitioning, hardware/software/firmware tradeoffs, and quantitative performance prediction.
* IC Communication experience including SPI, I2C, and RS232.
* Experience in managing and working with external design consultants.
* RF communication experience including Bluetooth, 802.11, 802.15, and GSM/CDMA.
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
* You must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
* You must be willing to work out of an office in St. Paul, MN.
Desired
* Previous Medical Device Experience.
* Knowledge of ECGs, and Filtering ECG signals.
* Experience in additional embedded processor architectures including MIPS and DSP devices.
* Ability to work in a cross-functional, geographically distributed team.
* Effectively expresses ideas, opportunities and concerns verbally and in writing.
* Accepts ownership of assignments and completes them accurately and timely.
* Technical Industry, Business and Cross-Functional knowledge.
